KAEFER is one of the few European suppliers specialising in GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) – an alternative to stainless steel or other metal cladding for insulated pipes. Many customers prefer GRP to traditional materials because of its light weight and excellent protective properties.
In challenging environments, particularly where space between pipework and equipment is limited, GRP simplifies both design and installation. The material reduces the need for maintenance by minimising the risk of CUI (Corrosion Under Insulation) caused by water ingress.
GRP is composed of glass fibre and resin, with the glass fibre providing strength and the resin providing mechanical properties. Surface treatment with paint is recommended for additional protection against sunlight, weather and wind.
Advantages of GRP Cladding:
- Durable and robust – low risk of damage
- Lightweight – easy handling and installation
- Excellent corrosion and chemical resistance
- Low thermal expansion – stable under varying temperatures
- No impact on radar or electromagnetic signals
- Maintenance-free – no need for frequent inspection
- Flame retardant
- HSE-friendly – no chemical risk during installation
